Czechia at the 49th Session of the UN Human Rights Council

The 49th Session of the Human Rights Council takes place from 28 February to 1 April. Minister Jan Lipavský participated in the High-level Segment of the Session.

During the five weeks of the Council's Spring Session States and Civil Society negotiate over 30 resolutions. Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Jan Lipavský participated in the High-level Segment of the Session on Tuesday 1 March.

Czechia together with other EU Member States supported the request by the Permanent Mission of Ukraine in Geneva to held an urgent debate in relation to the Russian aggression. The debate took place on Thursday 3 March. Czechia is engaged in the negotiations of the relevant resolution and also addressed the situation in other Council's meetings.

Furthermore, Czechia engages in negotiations of EU resolutions on Belarus, Myanmar, Democratic People's Republic of Korea, rights of the child and freedom of religion and belief.

During the Session, Czechia took part in the following plenary meetings:

Czechia has been a Member of the UN HRC three times (2019-2021, 2011-2014 and 2006-2007). Currently it is an Observer State in the Council and has presented its candidature for the elections in 2024.
