Working hours: The working days of the Visa Section are Sunday to Thursday. Visits to submit applications for a visa or residency permit are by appointment only (see here).  The Visa Section is closed on official Czech holidays (see here).

To collect your passport (with a visa decision) or to file an appeal, you may visit on any working day 12:00 – 12:45 pm, no appointment needed. Before collecting a long-term visa, you must submit a travel insurance document.

 

ARE YOU ELIGIBLE TO APPLY FOR A VISA?

Iraqi citizens travelling to Czechia are required to obtain a visa – a short-term (Schengen) visa for visits up to 90 days, or a long-term visa or residency permit. For air travel to a non-Schengen third country via an international airport in Czechia, they need (at least) a Schengen transit visa.

Non-Iraqi citizens may only apply for a visa (if they need it - see here for exemptions) at the Consulate General if they hold a permit for long-term or permanent residency in Iraq. Applicants for a long-term visa must have legally resided in Iraq for at least two years; for a Schengen visa, applicants must hold a residency permit for at least one year, including at least three months after the end of the validity of the requested visa. When applying, please enclose a copy of your residency permit. Applicants who do not meet the above conditions should apply in their home country.

The Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Erbil also accepts Schengen visa applications on behalf of Slovakia (all passport holders) and Belgium (diplomatic and service passport holders only).

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Baghdad is only authorized to receive applications for Schengen visas and Czech long-term visas / residency permits from holders of diplomatic and service passports.

If necessary, telephone enquiries may also be made by telephone (+964 751 009 2914) on working Mondays and Wednesdays only, from 2:00 to 3:30 pm.

We do not provide information on visa cases under process; the applicant will be contacted following the decision. The status of an application for a long-term visa or residency permit may be checked here.

Suggestions and complaints pursuant to Section 47(1)(j) or Section 38(5) of the Visa Code may be lodged by e-mail at erbil.consulate@mzv.gov.cz. 

The Visa Section does not discuss visa issues on social networks.

 

FEES

The fees for visa and residency-permit applications are payable in cash in Euros (EUR) upon submission of the application.

 

LANGUAGE OF COMMUNICATION

Written correspondence on visa matters with the Visa Section is only in Czech or English.

Interviews with applicants for a residency permit are only conducted in the Czech language, and applicants unable to do so must obtain a translator at their own expense.
