TERRITORIAL JURISDICTION

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Addis Ababa accepts Schengen visa and long-term visa/residence permit applications of citizens of Ethiopia, Comoros, Djibouti, Seychelles, Somalia and South Sudan and long-term/permanent residents in these countries.

Citizens of Ethiopia, Comoros, Djibouti and South Sudan need visa for short-term (up to 90 days) or long-term (over 90 days) stays in the Czech Republic/Schengen Area.

Citizens of Djibouti can apply for Schengen visas also at the Embassy of France in Djibouti, which represents the Czech Republic for the purpose of Schengen visa applications.

Citizens of Comoros can apply for Schengen visas also at the Embassy of France in Moroni, which represents the Czech Republic for the purpose of Schengen visa applications.

Citizens of Seychelles do not need visa for short-term (up to 90 days) non-profit stays in the Czech Republic/Schengen Area, but they need visas for long-term stays.

IMPORTANT NOTICE for citizens of Somalia: 
The Czech Republic does not recognize passports issued by Somalia or Somaliland. For this reason, it is not possible to apply for a long-term visa or a residence permit at Czech embassies or consulates on the basis of these travel documents. Schengen visa applications submitted by holders of Somali passports will generally be refused, unless the case constitutes an exceptional situation approved by the competent authorities of the Czech Republic.
Please note that foreign nationals are required to present a valid travel document recognized by the Czech Republic when entering its territory. The mere issuance of a visa does not establish a right of entry. An attempt to enter the Czech Republic with a travel document that is not recognized by the Czech Republic may result in refusal of entry and may lead to other measures under the legal regulations governing the residence of foreign nationals.

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Addis Ababa represents Slovakia for the purpose of Schengen visa applications in Ethiopia.

Applicants who are residents, but not citizens, in Ethiopia, Comoros, Djibouti, Seychelles, Somalia and South Sudan can apply for a long-term visa / residence permit at the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Addis Ababa  only if they have resided in these countries for at least the past two years. When registering your appointment, do attach a copy of your residence permit. If you do not fulfil this condition, do file your application in your home country. The embassy usually replies to specific e-mail inquiries within 5-15 days (up to 30 days by law).

The embassy does not provide any phone consultations. The embassy does not communicate via social networks.

The embassy does not provide information on visa application status during the legal review period. The embassy notifies the applicants as soon as the decision is made. You may check the status of your long-term visa/residence permit application on the website of the Ministry of Interior.

FEES 

Visa and consular fees are collected upon application submission in cash in EUR only.

LANGUAGE

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Addis Ababa communicates in Czech and English when processing visa and residence permit applications. If the applicant understands neither of these languages, he/she must arrange for an interpreter when applying, at his/her costs. 

Pursuant to Sections 57(2), 169k(1), and 169(1) of Act No. 326/1999 Coll., on the Residence of Foreign Nationals in the Territory of the Czech Republic and on Amendments to Certain Acts, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Addis Ababa may conduct an interview with an applicant for a long-term residence permit when the application is submitted. The interview is conducted in the Czech language; however, it may also be conducted in English. If the applicant does not have a sufficient knowledge of either of these languages, they are required to arrange and cover the costs of an interpreter. As a general rule, the interpreter should be a person registered in the Register of Court Interpreters and Translators, which is available at: https://seznat.justice.cz. Exceptionally, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Addis Ababa may appoint another person as an interpreter, provided that such person possesses the necessary language qualifications for interpreting and is able to prove them (for example, by presenting a certificate of an internationally recognized language examination at a minimum B2 level, a secondary school leaving certificate, or by other appropriate means). A person may not be appointed as an interpreter if there are reasonable grounds to doubt their impartiality due to their relationship to the matter, the participants in the proceedings, or their representatives.
