Long-term visas are issued for a maximum period of 1 year. Long-term residence permits are issued for applicants whose purpose of stay in the Czech Republic is either study (for stays of over 365 days), scientific research, family reunification (in specific cases), employee card or blue card. Visas for collecting long-term residence permits are issued with validity of 6 months and length of stay of 60 days. The long-term residence permit cards are only issued by the Ministry of Interior after the applicant's arrival in the Czech Republic.

Long-term visas and residence permits are processed and approved by the Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic. Without the approval, the Embassy is not authorized to issue the visa. The Embassy is unable to expedite or fast-track the visa process. Therefore, the Embassy encourages applicants to submit their applications well in advance (please, see the information about current average appointment waiting time on the appointment schedule page).

Holders of a valid long-term visa or residence permit card may stay for up to 90 days within any 180 days in other countries of the Schengen area.
