Temporary Import of Firearms into the Czech Republic
Overview
If you intend to bring a weapon into the Czech Republic, you must obtain a firearms transit waybill for both permanent and temporary imports.
The firearms transit waybill is issued to the applicant by:
- ● Embassy of the Czech Republic in London
- ● Police Presidium
- ● police unit at a border crossing (only at external Schengen borders, i.e., at international airports)
provided the applicant proves the purpose for which the temporary cross‑border transfer of the weapon or ammunition is to be carried out.
Scope and Conditions
The firearms transit waybill specifies:
- ● the extent and purpose for which its holder is authorized to handle the weapon and ammunition
- ● any additional conditions, if necessary for the protection of public order or safety
Validity
The firearms transit waybill is issued for a period corresponding to the duration of the temporary transfer and use of the weapon and ammunition, but for no longer than 1 year.
Holder’s Obligations
The holder may handle only the weapon and ammunition listed in the firearms transit waybill, and only within the scope and for the purpose stated in the document. The holder must also comply with all additional conditions included in the waybill.
Requirements by Purpose of Travel
- ● Hunting in the Czech Republic: An invitation from the user of the hunting grounds is required
- ● Sporting events in the Czech Republic: An invitation to the sporting event is required
