The Czech Republic and the United Kingdom cooperate not only in the political and economic spheres, but also in social, cultural, scientific, and educational fields. The two countries share similar views on a wide range of foreign policy and international security issues. Cooperation deepened further following the Czech Republic’s accession to NATO and its attainment of full membership in the European Union.

Czech-British relations have remained excellent even after the United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the European Union. In May 2021, the foreign ministers of both countries signed a Memorandum on Future Cooperation in Prague, setting out the key areas of their strategic foreign policy and security partnership.

In the security and defence sphere, the two countries cooperate, among other things, in the training of armed forces from NATO partner nations. Both countries have also been among the strongest supporters of Ukraine following Russia’s invasion in 2022, both within NATO and in the newly established “Coalition of the Willing”.

Despite the United Kingdom’s departure from the EU, mutual trade and economic cooperation remain a key pillar of Czech-British relations. In 2025, bilateral trade exceeded £11 billion, with British exports to the Czech Republic amounting to £3.8 billion and Czech exports to the United Kingdom reaching £7.8 billion. In that year, the United Kingdom was the fifth most important market for Czech exports. The automotive industry remains the principal component of this trade, particularly through the renowned Czech brand Škoda.

The importance of Czech investment in British businesses is also growing, ranging from steelworks in Wales to traditionally British institutions in which a Czech connection may come as a surprise, such as Royal Mail and the National Lottery. Energy cooperation between the two countries is also expected to expand, particularly in the field of nuclear energy. Following a visit to the Farnborough International Airshow in July 2026, Minister of Industry and Trade Karel Havlíček signed a memorandum of cooperation between Group CEZ and Rolls-Royce SMR on the development of small modular reactors.
