
Medal of Merit for Diplomacy

The Distinguished Contribution to Diplomacy Medal (Medaile Za zásluhy o diplomacii) is a prestigious honor awarded by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic.
It recognizes individuals and organizations – both Czech and foreign – for their exceptional contributions in diplomacy , as well as for their long-term efforts in fostering foreign relations of the Czech Republic with other countries.
History and significance
The Medal was established in 2018 by the Government of the Czech Republic and represents the highest non-presidential honor awarded specifically for merits in diplomacy. Previous recipients of the Medal include Madeleine Albright, Karel Schwarzenberg, Thomas Bagger, Lord George Robertson, Javier Solana, and Klaus Kinkel, in memoriam.
Design and Description
The Medal consists of a medal, badge, diploma, and case and has a distinct and formal design.
The medal has a round shape with a diameter of 35 mm and is minted from silver.
On the obverse side (front side), the Czernin Palace, seat of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is depicted along with the text "For Contribution to Diplomacy" . On the reverse side (back side), there is a stylized globe overlaid with the outline of the map of the Czech Republic and the logo of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with an engraved serial number. The medal is suspended on a tricolored ribbon.
The medal is accompanied by a 12 mm silver badge, which is a miniature version of the obverse side of the medal.
