Petr Svačina studied history, French and international relations at Masaryk University in Brno.
Petr Svačina has been working at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic since September 2002, when he joined the Diplomatic Academy.
Between 2003 and 2006, he served within the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) Department as the Czech representative in the COTER working party dealing with international aspects of counter-terrorism.
From 2006 to 2010, he was part of the Political Section of the Permanent Delegation of the Czech Republic to NATO in Brussels, where he was responsible for relations with partner countries.
In 2011, he was appointed Head of the civilian part of the Czech Provincial Reconstruction Team in Logar Province, Afghanistan. Upon his return in 2012, he served for four years as Deputy Director of the Asia Department.
Between 2016 and 2020, he was Deputy Ambassador and Consul at the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Seoul, Republic of Korea.
After completing his mission in South Korea and returning to the Czech Republic, he joined the Office of the Deputy Minister/Director General for Security and Multilateral Affairs, which he headed from mid-2022.
From March 2024 to August 2025, he served as Director of the Department for the Coordination of Security and Multilateral Affairs, which also included the Cyber Diplomacy Unit.
As of 1/9/2025 he is Permanent Representative of the Czech Republic to the Political and Security Committee.
