18.01.2017 / 12:56
Prominent Czech specialists discussed major changes in the Middle East and its potential future development at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 16 January 2017. The meeting of MFA officers with invited experts should contribute to defining a framework for the Czech foreign-policy approach towards the region in the coming years.
Roundtable on the causes of political changes that took place in the Arab states after 2010, their consequences for the further development in the areas of security, geopolitics, economy and society, possible scenarios of the development and ways the Czech Republic and the EU could take in addressing them was attended by analysts and researchers who follow the Middle East at the Institute of International Relations, the Oriental Institute and universities. Officers of the MFA Policy-Planning Department moderated the discussion on a number of important topics including long-term implications of the refugee problem, the role of armies, militias and non-state entities, and the religious motivation in politics.
