During the meeting they discussed possibilities of closer cooperation between the Czech Republic and the International Criminal Court (ICC) such as the bilateral cooperation agreements. The obligation of State Parties to fully cooperate with the ICC stems directly from the Rome Statute, but voluntary cooperation is necessary for its effective functioning. The Czech Republic is a staunch supporter of the ICC and also regularly provides voluntary contributions to the Trust Fund for Victims.

Since 2002, the ICC investigates and tries individuals for the most serious crimes under international law, i.e., war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide and in future also the crime of aggression, if States are unable or unwilling to conduct their own prosecutions (principle of complementarity). The Rome Statute of the ICC has currently 124 State Parties. The Czech Republic became the 110^th State Party to the Rome Statute on October 1, 2009. The Czech Republic also acceded to the Agreement on Privileges and Immunities of the ICC and in 2015 completed the ratification process of the Kampala Amendments to the Rome Statute.
