Humanitarian Diplomacy

Humanitarian diplomacy is one of the topics of the Czech EU Presidency in the humanitarian agenda. Its role is to prevent crises and to mobilise timely international response.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs Jan Lipavsky opened on Monday, 19 September, a side event to the United Nations General Assembly High Level Week in New York.
The event “The Role of Humanitarian Diplomacy in Anticipating and Preventing Food Crises” highlighted the current food crisis with its underlying drivers and cascading effects, and considered ways forward in the joint efforts to enhance the anticipatory work, prevention, early response and resilience building.
The hosts of the event - The Czech Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the Development Cooperation Directorate of OECD and the Global Network Against Food Crises, in collaboration with the Fighting Food Crises along the HDP Nexus Coalition, will continue to promote the important topic of humanitarian and nexus diplomacy for preventing food crises and reducing fragility.
