Emergency assistance
Czech nationals who find themselves in an emergency situation abroad may request assistance from the diplomatic missions and consular posts of the Czech Republic, including embassies, consulates general, consulates, honorary consulates or honorary consulates general.
Assistance is provided in all emergency situations listed below; however, the active cooperation of the person in distress is always required.
The primary international legal instrument governing the provision of assistance to nationals in emergency situations abroad is the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations.
Assistance is provided in the following cases (click on the individual items for more information):
- - lost or stolen travel documents,
- - hospitalisation,

Situation not considered an emergency
Situations, where Czech nationals travel abroad without sufficient money or without a return ticket and find themselves in distress as a result, are not considered emergency situations.
Situations not considered as emergencies typically include cases where Czech nationals travel abroad to visit friends or relatives or to seek employment without a return ticket, without sufficient money and without adequate resources to support themselves during their stay abroad.
In such cases, the traveler may be considered to have been in distress already prior to travelling abroad. Individuals who knowingly travel abroad without sufficient money cannot expect any financial assistance from state authorities.
