Czech Language Courses and Studies in the Czech Republic
We are proud to present the current offer of Czech language courses available for members of the Czech-American compatriot community.
1/ A four-week course of the Czech language for Czechs living abroad and their descendants
Course dates: July 13– August 7, 2026
Location: Poděbrady
Four-week summer Czech language course is intended for Czech compatriots over the age of 18 living abroad who wish to learn their ancestors' language or improve their existing Czech language skills. The course gives them the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the Czech culture and get to know parts of the Czechia. Tuition takes place in groups according to ability level and is led by experienced teachers. A diverse extracurricular program (forums, excursions, lectures, weekend day trips, etc.) is prepared for course participants. Tuition consists of a total of 90 teaching hours. Upon completion, participants receive a certificate.

Selected candidates will receive confirmation via the database. Others may be placed on a waiting list. The course must be completed in its entirety; it cannot be shortened or divided between multiple participants.

2/ A two-week course for teachers of the Czech language from the compatriot community
Course Dates: August 24 – September 4, 2026
Location: Prague
This course is intended for Czech language teachers from the compatriot communities. Participants are divided into two groups:
- Teachers from traditional compatriot communities (teaching adults).
- Educators from "Czech Schools Without Borders" and similar schools (teaching children).
Participants undergo two weeks of intensive methodology training aimed at improving and stabilizing forms of teaching Czech. Instruction consists of a total of 60 teaching hours. The course also includes visits to professional institutions related to the Czech language and literature.

The recommendation of the compatriot organization has to contain support of the applicant and reasons for the participation in the course for development of educational and cultural activities of the compatriot organization.
A committee composed of representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic (MFA), Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic (MEYS) and Czech National Agency for International Education and Research (DZS) will decide on admission to the course; selected candidates will then receive confirmation of acceptance via the database. Applicants who are not selected may become alternates and will be notified of any additional acceptance via the database. When selecting participants for the methodology course, the subsequent application of newly acquired knowledge is a decisive factor. It is essential for participants to complete the course in its entirety; the course cannot be shortened or divided between multiple participants.

3/ Scholarships for one or two semesters at the Czech universities
Scholarships are intended for compatriot students and students of Bohemistics, with priority given to the following fields: Czech for Foreigners, and - depending on faculty capacity and the applicant's level of Czech - Teaching of Czech Language and Literature. A good command of the Czech language is a prerequisite for participation.
Applicants for the scholarship are required to complete an online Czech language proficiency test before the selection committee meeting. The dates for the online test are April 7 and 8, 2026. Registered applicants will receive information regarding the time and login credentials for the test via the email provided in their application.
Students must obtain a specific number of credits during their studies (information will be provided by the relevant faculty before the start of studies); failure to meet academic obligations may result in the termination of studies.

Deadlines for submitting applications into the electronic system:
- For one-semester study in the winter semester of the 2026/2027 academic year (September 2026 to February 2027): by March 31, 2026.
- For two-semester study in the winter and summer semesters of the 2026/2027 academic year (September 2026 to June 2027): by March 31, 2026.
- For one-semester study in the summer semester of the 2026/2027 academic year (February 2027 to June 2027): by August 15, 2026.
After acceptance by the respective university, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MEYS) will send the "Decision on Granting a Scholarship" and accommodation confirmation to selected scholarship holders via the MFA and the Embassy. At the same time, scholarship holders will find all necessary documents in the database under their login credentials. It is essential that participants of the semester stay accept the study dates specified in the "Decision on Granting a Scholarship" and complete the entire study period, including the examination period.

Important! Decisions on the acceptance or non-acceptance of applicants for all three parts of the educational program will be made by a Committee composed of representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic (MFA), Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic (MEYS) and Czech National Agency for International Education and Research (DZS) and Charles University.
Applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered.
If required by the visa regime between the Czech Republic and a specific state, the participant is responsible for securing the appropriate Czech visa.
