Karlovy Vary - Kusatsu
The West Bohemian spa town of Karlovy Vary entered into a partnership with the Japanese spa town of Kusatsu in 1992.
Kusatsu (草津町) is a spa town located in the Japanese district of Agacuma, Gunma Prefecture, Honshu Island. The city lies at an altitude of about 1200 meters above sea level, with the active volcano Kusatsu-Shirane, rising west of it . There are around 100 thermal springs in the city, so-called onsen, whose water is used not only for spa baths, but also for heating a number of buildings and during winter to keep snow free roads.
Karlovy Vary is a spa town situated in western Bohemia, Czech Republic, on the confluence of two rivers – Ohře and Teplá, approximately 130 km (81 mi) west of Prague. It is named after Charles IV, Holy Roman Emperor and king of Bohemia, who founded the city in 1370. It is the site of numerous hot springs (13 main springs, about 300 smaller springs, and the warm-water Teplá River), and is the most visited spa town in the Czech Republic.
Kusatsu is located in Gunma Prefecture.
