The current Government of Iceland is determined to make a decisive headway in the construction of the New National University Hospital in Reykjavik (Nýr Landspítali, NLSH). The new hospital will substantially improve quality of public healthcare across Iceland. It is the single most extensive and expensive construction project in the history of Iceland.
The summary of talks between the Czech Embassy in Oslo and their Icelandic partners is that time has come for the Czech companies to be interested in the hospital project and the ensuing public tenders, and to identify the produce that can be utilized in the construction of the hospital. Both „hard components“ (e. g. special construction parts, floors, electrical installations, generators) and inventory (cables, furniture, medical equipment, etc.) will be in demand.
The long distance between the point of produce and the point of assembly is compensated for by the scale of the project of the New National University Hospital:
- Phase I: the Treatment Centre, 60,000 sq. m.;
- Phase II: the Laboratory Unit and new facilities for the Medical School, 30,000 sq. m.
The Government of Iceland has earmarked the amount of 350 mil. EUR for the construction that is to finish by 2023.
Companies with previous provisions to healthcare in Scandinavia should particularly study the conditions of the upcoming tenders, published in accordance with the EU/EEA legislation.
At present, NLSH published two Requests for Information regarding:
Further public tenders will be announced by the NLSH in the Icelandic Central Public Procurement Office, and in the Supplement to the Official Journal of the EU.
