The 11th edition of the Little Europe Film Festival 2013 which was dedicated to the theme “City in Cinema” was launched by the Czech Film „Lidice“ that tells the story of the massacre and complete destruction of the Czech village „Lidice“ in 1942 during the Second World War as part of the Nazi atrocities in Europe. The film drama „Lidice“ recounts the darkest episode of the Czechoslovak people during the Second World War and marks one of the most tragic events in the Czech history. The “Little Europe Film Festival 2013” and the screening of the Czech Film „Lidice“ was inaugurated on November 18, 2013 by official inaugural speeches of H.E. Mr. Miloslav Stašek, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to India, and Dr. Ranjana Saxena, Head of the Department of Slavonic and Finno-Ugrian Studies, Delhi University. Following the inaugural speeches, Col. Antonín Prokeš, Defence Attache of the Czech Republic to India, provided the students with a historical insight into the tragic events that hit the village Lidice. The inaugural panel was concluded with a discourse on the theme „City in Cinema“ by film expert Ananda Kapoor.

The 11th Festival of Films from Central Europe and Russia was organized by the Department of Slavonic and Finno-Ugrian Studies with the support of the Embassy of the Czech Republic and the Embassies of Russian Federation, Poland, Bulharia, Hungary and Croatia in India. The Festival takes place until October 29, 2013.
