Petr Macinka: “The centre of the global economy is in Asia. The Czech Republic wants to contribute through technology, industry, and open trade.”

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Petr Macinka led the Czech delegation at the EU–ASEAN ministerial meeting in Bandar Seri Begawan on 27–28 April 2026. The meeting focused on further developing relations between the European Union and the dynamically growing Southeast Asian region.

In his remarks, he highlighted the importance of equal partnership and the need to cooperate without bloc divisions. He emphasized strengthening connectivity in all its forms and building resilient supply chains. He also underlined the importance of a pragmatic approach to international cooperation that delivers concrete results.

The Czech Republic aims to be an active partner in the region. It will focus on sharing technologies, supporting industrial modernisation, and expanding economic cooperation. Emphasis will be placed on open trade and practical solutions that strengthen mutual prosperity.

On the margins of the meeting, Minister Macinka held a series of bilateral meetings with partners from the region, including the foreign ministers of Cambodia, the Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, and Malaysia. Discussions focused on the development of bilateral relations, economic cooperation, and other concrete areas of collaboration.
