REGISTERING A MARRIAGE
WHO NEEDS TO ATTEND THE APPOINTMENT?
Both spouses shall attend the appointment. They will need to sign an agreement on their surnames after the marriage.
WHAT DOCUMENTS ARE NECESSARY TO SUBMIT THE APPLICATION?
- A British marriage certificate*
- Valid ID of the spouses (an ID card, a passport or a driving license)
- Proof of Czech citizenship of the spouse(s) (regarding Czech citizens only – e.g. a valid Czech ID card/Czech passport/Certificate of Czech citizenship)
- Czech or Slovak birth certificates of the spouses (it is not necessary to provide other foreign birth certificates)
- Proof of marital status before this marriage - if they were not single before (e. g. divorce/death/widow-widower certificate – if these events have not yet been registered, it is necessary to register them first)
- Foreign passports – if the spouses have acquired different citizenship
- Proof of acquiring foreign citizenship* (e.g. certificate of naturalization) – if the spouses have acquired different citizenship.
- The registration fee (in accordance with current consular rates).
- Other relevant documents required to verify registry matters
*PLEASE NOTE: British documents must bear an apostille and must be translated into Czech by a sworn/court-appointed translator.
