Another temporary bridge built in the Upper Savinja Valley with the help of Czech soldiers

On 20 September 2023, a temporary bridge was officially opened in the village of Ljubno ob Savinji to provide transport in the area affected by the catastrophic floods in August this year. This was the third bridge transported to Slovenia by the Fire Brigade of the Czech Republic and built by the Czech Army. The bridge was named Perun after a god from the Slavic mythology.

Representatives of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Ljubljana, staff of the Civil Protection and Disaster Relief Administration and representatives of the Ljubno Municipality attended the opening ceremony. Pavel Sladký Deputy Head of Mission, who reminded the long-standing relations between the Czechs and Slovenians, opened the ceremony with a speech. He recalled the importance of NATO membership, as within the framework of this international cooperation it is possible to send members of the army to a partner country to help after floods. The staff of the Civil Protection and Disaster Relief Administration as well as representatives of the local authorities thanked the Czech Republic for its assistance to Slovenia affected by the floods.

A cultural programme performed by local children’s artists was part of the celebration. At the end, the mayor of Ljubno ob Savinji and the head of the Civil Protection in Celje danced with joy across the open bridge.
