Jan Havránek, Deputy Minister for Defence Policy and Strategy at the Czech Ministry of Defence, participated in a conference organised by the European Centre of Excellence for Countering Hybrid Threats where, among other things, he presented the current readiness and resilience Czechia in the context of newly adopted strategic documents, and met with partners from the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Deputy Minister Radka of Defence Radka Konderlová represented Czechia at the matchmaking mission of Czech defence industry companies in Finland, during which a memorandum on strengthening industry cooperation between representatives of Czech and Finnish defence industry associations was signed. Among others, she also held talks with the Raimo Jyväsjärvi, NAtional Armaments Director of the Ministry of Defence.

A consultation on the Czech presidency of the Council of the EU was held with the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Prime Minister's Office. The meeting, where Czechia was represented by Deputy Minister Jan Kohout, took place on the sidelines of the Nordic-Baltic Eight and Visegrád Group foreign ministers meeting in Hämeenlinna, Finland. The main topics included the Finnish lessons learned from the last EU presidency in 2019 and presentation of the Czech priorities for the upcoming Czech presidency of the Council in 2022.

On the sidelines of the Lennart Meri Conference, a meeting between the Czech and Finnish Foreign Ministers Jakub Kulhánek and Pekka Haavisto took place in Tallinn. The focus was on the current security agenda, the issue of the Arctic, instrumentalization of migration, Russia, Czech presidency of the Council of the EU, or the transatlantic ties.

Online consultation of the Czech and Finnish Ministries of Foreign Affairs on the European agenda was let by Aleš Chmelař, Deputy Minister of the European Section, and attended by Director General for Europe Pilvi-Sisko Vierros-Villeneuve, as well as Director General for Russia and Eastern Europe Maimo Henriksson. In addition to the preparation of the Presidency of the Czech Republic in the Council of the EU, the relations with the Russian Federation or the EU Western Balkans enlargement was discussed as well.

On-line consultation of the Czech and Finnish Ministries of Foreign Affairs on Africa and the Middle East was led by Martin Tlapa, Deputy Minister of the Non-European Countries, Economic and Development Cooperation Section on the Czech side, while Finland was represented by Director General for Africa and the Middle East Leena-Kaisa Mikkola. The main topics included the Middle East peace process, Czech experience and mutual cooperation in the Sahel, and the preparation of the Finnish strategy for Africa.
18 - 19 January 2021
A two-day consultation on strategies and exchange of experiences in addressing hybrid threats, with an emphasis on institutional security or early warning, was held in Helsinki. Czechia was represented by Ondřej Ditrych, Director of the Institute of International Relations, while Finland was represented by senior officials of the Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Interior.
