Experience an evening with renowned Czech writer Jáchym Topol, excellent literature and delicious Czech beer!

Since the late 1980s, Jáchym Topol (born 1962) is an active writer, composer and poet. After the Velvet Revolution, Topol became one of the most important writers of Czech modern prose, and each new novel meant a small cultural event. J. Topol has published more than 15 books, which were translated into several languages. His novel "The Devil´s Workshop" reflects history of the country while using specific Czech humour and a dose of surrealism.

In June 2018, the publishing house Silkefyret published a Danish translation of the novel. The story reaches from Terezin to Belarus. Young people from all over Europe are trying to understand the cruelties committed in the past. But is it possible after all? What does it take?

J. Topol will read a few parts of his novel, and Peter Bugge, a lecturer at the University of Aarhus and an expert in Czech culture and history, will lead an interview refarding work and other cultural activities of J. Topol. Peter Bugge is himself a translator of the famous Čapek's book "War with the Newts".

The programme is as follows:

19:00 Welcome speech by the Czech Ambassador Radek Pech
19:05 Representative of Silkefyret Allan Lillelund Andersen and the translator Lada Halounová will present The Devil´s Workshop
19:15 Peter Bugge will do an interview with Jáchym Topol and Lada Halounová
20:00 Presentation of the Danish translation K. Čapek's book "War with the Newts"
