The Czech Republic and Japan are united by a love for elegant, high-quality design, and by the principle of monozukuri, which emphasizes craftsmanship and the spirit of creativity. On 13th and 14th January, he Czech Embassy in Tokyo hosted a networking exhibition that connected Czech designers of design products with over 120 local guests, including entrepreneurs, distributors, and designers.
Organized in collaboration with the Czech Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Japan, the exhibition took an approach that demonstrates Czech artistic culture is vibrant, dynamic, and capable of offering high-quality products that appeal to users with their beauty and to businesspeople with their strong commercial potential.
Companies such as Grofova Design, Izaak Reich, Modernista, HAN Design, Silky Gang, TON, and Mind Artist International, representing among others Granát Turnov, presented portfolios of products that combine functional and decorative works—undeniably works of art.
Two companies were able to secure partners for selling their products on the spot, while others successfully began business negotiations and plan follow-up activities in cooperation with the Czech Embassy in Tokyo. The event’s success highlights the remarkable interest in quality Czech products in Japan, including furniture, interior design and décor, jewelry, fashion, porcelain, glass, and other items.
The exhibition not only sent a positive message to Japanese companies and the public about the potential of Czech products, but its success may also signal to other Czech companies that they too have the opportunity to establish themselves in the large and aesthetically demanding Japanese market. This is confirmed by the experience of other companies such as Preciosa, Moser, and the aforementioned Granát Turnov, which already operate successfully in Japan’s design market.
A major support for companies interested in the Japanese market comes not only from the Czech Embassy in Tokyo but also from the Japanese office of CzechTrade, which can help connect them with verified business partners, distributors, or agents. It also assists companies in understanding the specifics of the Japanese business environment, customer tastes, and the high demands for quality, detail, and presentation.
Thanks to its local presence, CzechTrade can provide valuable feedback on product or marketing adjustments to meet Japanese expectations, reduce market entry risks, and increase the chances of long-term success for Czech design brands in Japan.
