In his remarks, Ambassador Radek Matula welcomed representatives of Swedish institutions, the diplomatic corps, business, academia, culture, and the Czech community in Sweden. Reflecting on the legacy of Saint Wenceslas, he emphasized the importance of responsibility for one's country, freedom, security, and reliable partnerships. He highlighted the excellent state of Czech-Swedish relations and the growing cooperation between the two countries in defense, innovation, energy, transport, and advanced technologies.
The Ambassador also referred to several tangible examples of successful bilateral cooperation. He recalled the continued service of Gripen aircraft in the Czech Air Force, cooperation on CV90 infantry fighting vehicles, emerging opportunities in nuclear energy, and the increasing presence of Czech companies in Sweden. He further underlined the importance of innovation and new technologies, which continue to create new opportunities for cooperation between Czech and Swedish partners.
The guest of honor of the reception was Dag Hartelius, State Secretary of the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs. In his speech, he praised the exceptionally close relations between Sweden and the Czech Republic and highlighted their strategic importance. He underscored the intensive cooperation between the two countries within the European Union and NATO, as well as their shared commitment to strengthening European security, competitiveness, and support for Ukraine.
The evening opened with performances of the Czech and Swedish national anthems by pianist Magdalena and vocalist Zuzana, who also provided the musical accompaniment throughout the reception.
