Handover of the Presidency of the Council of the EU in Latvia

On 29 June 2022, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Latvia symbolically took over the Presidency of the Council of the EU from the Embassy of France. The handover ceremony took place at the House of Europe in Riga and was attended by representatives of the diplomatic missions of the EU Member States, representatives of local organisations and authorities as well as the media.
On Wednesday 29 June 2022, a symbolic handover of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union took place at the European House between France, which held the EU Presidency for the first half of 2022, and the Czech Republic, which will assume the honour on 1 July for the next six months.
The overall objective of the Czech Presidency is to contribute as much as possible to creating the conditions for the security and prosperity of the EU in the context of the European values of freedom, social justice, democracy and the rule of law and environmental responsibility. The EU must focus on ensuring security together with NATO and affirming the strategic resilience and competiveness of the European economy.
The event was attended by representatives of diplomatic missions in Latvia, local authorities and the media. The Presidency was symbolically handed over by Ms Aurélie Royet-Gounin, Ambassador of France to Latvia, to Ms Jana Hynková, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Latvia.
The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Latvia thanks France for its excellent presidency and looks forward to working closely with the EU Member States in the coming months.
