On November 12-13, within the "V4 Film Days" festival, the films of various genres, including those that showed the life behind the Iron Curtain, were presented to the Latvian audience at the K-Suns cinema.
Ambassador of the Czech Republic Jana Hynková, who mentioned the history of the Visegrad Group and its founders - Czechoslovak President Václav Havel, Hungarian Prime Minister József Antall and Polish President Lech Wałęsa, opened the festival with a speech. She also underlined the mutual support of our countries in joining NATO, the European Union and the joint promotion of cooperation and sustainability in the wider Central Europe region at present.
The Czech Republic presented the film “Kolja“ by Jan Svěrák, commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution in Czechoslovakia. As the Ambassador mentioned, we believe that on days when Latvia is also commemorating its struggle for freedom and democracy, this film will be a fine reminder that it is worth sacrificing our lives for the sake of freedom and creation of the new states. At the end of her speech, Mrs. Jana Hynková thanked Mrs. Halina Lapiņa for the translation and simultaneous interpretation into Latvian.
The screening of the Czech film “Kolja” by Jan Svěrák was very successful with the audience. More than 50 spectators including the members of diplomatic corps and the Latvian-Czech society, students and the Latvian public attended the screening.
