Statement of Czechia on the Conference on a Two-State Solution to the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict.

The conference on a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, postponed from June, was held in New York from July 28 to 30, 2025, under the auspices of France and Saudi Arabia. Czechia participated at the level of chargé d'affaires of the Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York.

Mr. President, Excellencies,

We welcome this opportunity to reaffirm the Czech Republic's longstanding commitment to a peaceful resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. This vision is grounded in the establishment of two states — Israel and Palestine — living side by side in peace, security, and mutual recognition.

We are deeply concerned by the continued violence and humanitarian suffering in the region, and we call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the unconditional release of all hostages, leading to a permanent end to hostilities.

Czechia acknowledges the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people for statehood and dignity, just as we affirm Israel’s right to exist, free from terror and existential threats.

We believe that the only viable path to achieving this vision is through direct negotiations between the two parties. A negotiated agreement remains the sole sustainable means to ensure stability, democratic and economic development, and security for all. Unilateral actions risk undermining the delicate balance required for meaningful dialogue and may further entrench divisions.

Mr. President,

It is of utmost importance to re-establish a political horizon toward a two-state solution. We urge all parties and international actors to focus on confidence-building measures, regional cooperation — including through frameworks such as the Abraham Accords — and practical steps that can foster trust and pave the way for renewed negotiations.

A peace settlement must serve the legitimate interests of both peoples, who rightfully expect tangible outcomes from diplomatic efforts. It is imperative to create conditions that enable Palestinians to establish a viable, independent future, whilst also ensuring that Israelis are not perpetually confronted with critical security concerns. Furthermore, Hamas should no longer pose a threat to Israel and must have no role in Palestine's future governance.

Mr. President,

Achieving a just and lasting peace will require bold, courageous decisions from both Israelis and Palestinians. The path to a two-state solution is neither simple nor without sacrifice, but it demands leadership that prioritizes the future over the past, and reconciliation over retaliation. Both sides must demonstrate the political will to engage in meaningful dialogue, make difficult compromises, and reject extremism in all its forms. Only through such resolve can we hope to transform aspirations into reality.

Czechia stands ready to assist in any genuine effort that brings both sides back to the negotiating table and advances the cause of peace.

Thank you.
