From 2020 to 2022, the National Commemoration of Jan Amos Comenius will take place in the Czech Republic and around the world, commemorating the 350th anniversary of his death (in 2020) and the 430th anniversary of his birth (in 2022).

Jan Amos Comenius (28 March 1592, southeastern Moravia – 15 November 1670, Amsterdam) was one of the greatest Czech thinkers, philosophers, writers, Teacher of Nations, a founder of modern pedagogy. He was the creator of a comprehensive pedagogical system in the Czech lands and the author of many textbooks. His fame crossed the borders not only of the Czech Republic and Central Europe, but also of the whole continent.

The exhibition of the author Ms Markéta Pánková of the National Pedagogical Museum and Library of J. A. Comenius in Prague presents the life of J. A. Comenius, introduces Comenius’ groundbreaking pedagogical work and his modern textbooks, philosophical legacy and hisreflection in art. The exhibition includes a selection of still valid ideas from Comenius' work.

This exhibition is open to the general public in the atrium of the National Library of Latvia from 1st to 10th October 2021.
