Minister of Culture of the Czech Republic Mr. Daniel Herman Visited Latvia

During September 1- 4, 2016, the official visit of the Minister of Culture of the Czech Republic Mr.  Daniel Herman to Latvia took place. 

 

Minister was accompanied by Mr. Patrik Košický, Director of minister’s cabinet, Mr. Petr Hnízdo, the Director of Foreign Relations Department of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, Mr. Michal Lukeš, General Director of the National Museum of the Czech Republic, Ms. Kristina Larischová, Junior Deputy Minister and Director of Public Diplomacy Department of the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs and H.E. Mr. Miroslav Kosek, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Latvia.

On Friday, September 2, the Minister of Culture attended the bilateral meeting with the Minister of Culture of Latvia, Mrs. Dace Melbarde. He viewed the National Library with great interest and met with Latvian interpreters of Czech literature J. Krastiņš, H. Lapiņa and U. Berziņš. Then they visited the National Art Museum.

On Saturday, September 3, Mr. Daniel Herman met again with the Minister of Culture of Latvia during his visit to the castle of Bauska. Both were warmly welcomed by Mr. Maris Skanis, the director of the Museum of Bauska Castle and Mr. Raitis Abelnieks, the Mayor of Bauska. After the introductory speech of Mr. Ambassador and speeches of both ministers, museum’s director and the mayor and after the inauguration of the already installed exhibition "Charles IV, Czech King and Holy Roman Emperor", Mr. Herman introduced the catalogue "20 Years of Czech activities in the field of protection of cultural monuments in Latvia". Bauska Castle has become a real symbol of cooperation between Czech and Latvian experts with the key role of Czech experts Miloš Gavenda, Miroslav Hanzl and others. Mr. Gavenda introduced the proceedings and informed about the Czech contribution to the restoration of monuments during nearly a quarter of the century. Then, Miloš Gavenda, Miroslav Hanzl together with Mr. Maris Skanis accompanied the high guests on a tour around the reconstructed castle.

The delegation also visited the neighboring castle in Rundale.

In the afternoon, the delegation of two ministers visited the fascinated castle with a neat park in the company of the Director of the Museum of Rundale Mr. Imants Lancmanis.
 

The visit of the Minister of Culture of the Czech Republic to Latvia was finished on Sunday morning, September 4.
