Martin Smolek to Take Over as Head of the Permanent Mission of Czechia in Vienna

 

Martin Smolek, the current Director General of the Legal andConsular Section at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Czechia, will become the new head of the Permanent Mission of Czechia inVienna. Martin Smolek has already received his letter of credence from Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský and will take up his post onSeptember 1, 2025. 

He will replace his predecessor Ivo Šrámek, who has been in office since September 2018, as Permanent Representative of the Czech Republic to the UN, OSCE and other international organizations in Vienna. “Martin Smolek is a respected professional with extensive experience who has served for a long time as Director General of the Legal and Consular Section of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and also holds the position of Representative of the Czech Republic before the Court of Justice of the European Union. I sincerely wish him every success in his new role as head of the Permanent Mission of Czechia in Vienna,” said Minister Lipavský on his appointment. 

The Permanent Mission of Czechia in Vienna represents the country before international organizations based in the Austrian capital. These include various agencies of the United Nations (UN), the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and others.
