Successful standing and ambitions of the Škoda brand in Norway

(This article expired 01.01.2018 / 01:00.)

“Škoda” is the best-known Czech brand name in Norway. For 2017, the Škoda car importer plans to increase the Norwegian sales by ten percent. Overall, more than 80,000 Škoda cars are registered in Norway and, once a hybrid model is available, the sales are forecast to shoot up.

On February 22, 2017, Jaroslav Knot, the Czech Ambassador to Norway, and his deputy Josef Smyček paid a visit to the Škoda Division at Harald A. Møller A/S, the leading car importer in Norway. Thomas Meiner, Head of the Škoda Division, and Thomas Mietinen, Country Marketing Manager for Škoda, commented on the solid performance of the Czech car manufacturer in Norway.

In 2016, a total of 7,774 new Škoda cars were sold in Norway, making Škoda the sixth most purchased car brand with a national market share of 5.3 percent. “Octavia” is the most sought-after model and, curiously, the only one among the Top 10 best-selling cars in Norway that is neither an electric or hybrid car.

The Škoda importer in Norway sees the highest demand for high-specification, robust cars that perform well in the rugged terrain and provide a sporty driving experience. The Škoda importer has the ambition to sell 8,600 cars in 2017. Much of the increase is attributed to the new “Kodiaq” model: More than a thousand firm orders had been placed by the Norwegian customers even before the deliveries to Norway started.

There are 135,000 electric and hybrid cars in Norway, a very noticeable share of all the passenger cars in operation. When Škoda enters this market segment, the Norwegian importer predicts a massive boost in sales.

The Czech Embassy in Oslo will continue to promote the Škoda brand in Norway in a similar fashion as the Norwegian première of the “Superb” model that took place at the premises of the embassy in June 2015.
