Ambassador Václav Bálek and Director of the Cyber Security Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Richard Kadlčák met on the sidelines of the World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA-20) with Mr. Chaesub Lee, Director of the Telecommunication Standardization Bureau (TSB) of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). TSB is responsible for standard-setting activities for a wide range of telecommunications technologies.
The program of the Assembly has been adcversely affected by the Russian military aggression against Ukraine. A number of Member States called for removing of (7) Russian candidates for chair and vice-chair positions of 11 ITU-T study groups, arguing that "candidates of a member state that violates the UN Charter cannot perform their roles of independent moderators of discussions in the study groups".
In the context of cooperation with Czechia, Director Lee mentioned several perspective initiatives, such as the “Artificial Intelligence for Preserving Historical Monuments”, as part of a large-scale project "AI for Good", and called on Czechia to participate in the ITU "Smart Sustainable Cities" project, which currently includes more than 150 cities worldwide.
