On April 21-22, 2026, the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Regional Forum on Sustainable Development (RFSD) took place in Geneva, aiming at supporting Innovative and Equitable Actions for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The purpose of the RFSD was to assess the ongoing implementation of the 2030 Agenda, specifically selected goals in the areas of water management, access to energy resources, resilient infrastructure, sustainable cities and communities, and global partnership (goals 6, 7, 9, 11, and 17).
The head of the Czech delegation, Ms. Magdaléna Ovesen, Director of the Department of International Relations at the Ministry of Regional Development of the Czech Republic, delivered a national statement during the high-level RFSD debate. In it, she informed, among other things, about the progress in achieving the SDGs in the Czech Republic and about the financial, methodological, and legal prerequisites for building a society prepared to cope with energy and technological challenges, including cyber challenges. The Czech Republic supports the work of UNECE focused on practical results. The RFSD must contribute to meaningful dialogue, the engagement of all regional stakeholders, and the exchange of experiences. At the same time, it should gather regional input for the UN High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) on the 2030 Agenda.
Ms Gabriela Boiteux Pilná, Chargée d'affaires a.i. of the Permanent Mission to the UN in Geneva, spoke at two side RFSD events, one focused on people-centered digital transformation and the other on building climate disasters resilience. The panel on digital transformation was co-organized with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and focused on the challenges of implementing human rights in the new digital era. The side event on building climate change resilience was focused on the position of women during natural disasters, both as victims and as key actors in prevention and overcoming consequences. The event was co-organized with the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), and the Czech Republic presented there its own projects in Georgia, Moldova, Ethiopia, and Cambodia.
