MEDEVAC-Medical Missions

MEDEVAC is Czechia’s medical humanitarian program that focuses on providing medical treatment to the most vulnerable populations free of charge and strengthening healthcare infrastructure in partner countries. It is implemented every year by the Ministry of Interior of the Czech Republic with cooperation with leading Czech public hospitals.

In Zambia, the program has been active since 2023. Since then, Czech medical teams, together with their Zambian counterparts, have performed more than hundred surgeries on Zambian patients in the fields of Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) specialization, Traumatology, and Pediatric cardiac surgery. In addition to providing surgeries, the program aims to systematically enhance healthcare expertise and standards through the transfer of medical know-how, training of Zambian medical professionals in Zambia as well as in Czechia and consultations. The Zambian institutions that were included in the project include the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka, National Heart Hospital in Lusaka and the Lewanika General Hospital in Mongu.
