In partnership with local and international organizations, Czech humanitarian assistance helps the most vulnerable groups of population, primarily refugees, farmers, and drought-affected population through nutrition promotion, model gardens, and cash transfers.

1. Tackling Food Insecurity and Malnutrition by Promoting Nutrition-Dense Crops

The Czech Republic alongside Caritas Czech Republic repeatedly implemented this project in 2022, 2023 and 2024 in the refugee settlements located in Meheba and Mayukwayukwa. This project aims to improve nutrition and food security in the Mayukwayukwa and Meheba Refugee Settlements by promoting the sustainable production of nutrient-dense crops, such as Vitamin A-rich sweet potatoes and iron-rich beans. Project also provides income opportunities for 1,200 farmers, enhancing economic self-reliance. Key activities include the installation of solar-powered irrigation systems benefiting 1,200 farmers, the distribution of walking tractors, the equipping of post-harvest centers with solar dryers, and farmer training.

2. Innovative Technological Solutions for Climate Resilience

The Czech Republic alongside the Czech NGO People in Need, repeatedly provided innovative technological solutions for climate resilience in Western province. The programme boosted climate resilience for 40,000 smallholder farmers across six districts in Western Province. Key objectives include capacity building in climate-smart techniques, improving access to agricultural services and markets, and enhancing disaster preparedness.

3. Cash Transfers during the Drought Response 2024 (Southern and Western provinces) 

The Czech Republic alongside the Zambian Red Cross Society provided provision of emergency financial assistance through social cash transfers to vulnerable households affected by the extreme drought crisis in 2024. By offering rapid, targeted cash transfers, the initiative seeks to alleviate immediate food insecurity, reduce poverty, and support basic needs.
