Removal from the special electoral register

Information for voters who are registered in the special electoral register maintained by our diplomatic mission but need to be removed from the register, for example, due to returning from long-term residence abroad to the Czech Republic.

The Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Los Angeles (CG Los Angeles) will remove a voter from the special electoral register (ZSV) maintained by this diplomatic mission upon the request of the voter. The request for removal from the special electoral register can be made in writing or orally. The request cannot be made by phone. A voter may only request removal orally during a personal visit to the diplomatic mission, at which point the mission staff will make a record of the request. A written request is sufficient if it is:

  1. Submitted in person at CG Los Angeles during official hours or at the relevant honorary consulate; when submitting the request, a valid identification document (national ID card, passport, or document of acquisition or granting of Czech citizenship not older than one year) must be presented. In exceptional cases, identity can be verified for the purpose of the ZSV registration with a valid foreign official document containing the holder's photo and basic personal details, on the basis of which identity and nationality can be verified in the population register;

  2. Sent by mail to the address: Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Los Angeles, 10990 Wilshire Blvd., Suite 1100, Los Angeles, CA 90024, where the request itself must be accompanied by an officially verified signature with a statement from the relevant Czech Honorary Consulate (based on submission of a valid ID) or another appropriate local verification authority, as well as contact details of the applicant (phone number or email address);

  3. Submitted as (a) a completed form or (b) a freely written request (in this case with all required details) via data box to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Prague with the designation CG Los Angeles; for this form of submission, an officially verified signature is not required; the request must be supplemented with the applicant's contact details (phone number or email address);

  4. Submitted via the Citizen Portal (using an electronic identification method issued within the qualified electronic identification system at least at the substantial assurance level).

Removal can be done at any time, but no later than 2 days before the first day of the elections. A voter who has been issued a voter card can only be removed if, along with submitting the request for removal to the diplomatic mission, they also return the voter card.

To submit a request for removal from the special electoral register, either the attached form (removal from register form (PDF, 181 KB) can be used, or the request can be written in free form, including all necessary details for verification and to prevent the removal of another person.

CG Los Angeles will issue a certificate of removal from the special electoral register upon the request. This certificate must be submitted to the municipal office in the Czech Republic, in the area of which the voter has their permanent residence, before the election day, or to the local election commission on the election day in the district where the voter resides.
