Radegast, Vesna and Perun are the names of gods from the mythology of our ancestors. They are also the names of temporary bridges in Slovenia, built by members of the Czech Army in places where massive floods destroyed road connections.
The first bridge was opened on 11 September 2023 in the village of Črna na Koroškem. It was named after the Slavic god Radegast. On the invitation of Ambassador J. Chmiel, the President of the National Assembly attended the opening of the bridge, Mrs. Urška Klakočar Zupančič.
The second bridge was opened on 13 September 2023 in the village of Mežica and was named after the Slavic goddess Vesna. After the agreement of the Ambassador of the Czech Republic, Mr. Juraj Chmiel, and the Ambassador of the Delegation of the European Commission, Mrs. Jerneja Jug Jerše, the EU Commissioner for Crisis Management, Mr. Janez Lenarčič, visited the bridge.
The third bridge was opened on 20 September 2023 in the municipality of Ljubno ob Savinja and was named after the god Perun in the presence of the leadership of the surrounding municipalities and representatives of the Slovenian state administration.
The material from which the temporary bridges were constructed was transported to Slovenia by members of the Fire Rescue Corps of the Czech Republic. The actual construction was carried out by members of the 152nd Engineer Battalion from the 15th Engineer Regiment of the Army of the Czech Republic from Bechyně.
At the end of the demanding engineering project, the Slovenian army organised an excursion for the participating Czech soldiers as an appreciation for their efforts and dedication. The main stop was the Park of Military History Pivka, which also cooperates closely with the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Ljubljana. Under experts’ guidance, the group explored all the current museum collections and exhibitions. At the end of their visit, the Czech soldiers congratulated the Park of Military History for its successful work in preserving and presenting the rich collection of military technical monuments and for the correct presentation of the military-historical content. The Pivka Park is pleased and proud to host a unit of the Czech army that participated in the removal of the devastating consequences of the floods. The park management expressed sincere thanks to the participating members of the Czech Army for their contribution.
