On 25 October 2023, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Ljubljana held a reception to commemorate the 105th anniversary of the establishment of the independent Czechoslovak state at the Museum of Architecture and Design at Fužine Castle in Ljubljana.
The reception to commemorate the 105th anniversary of the independent Czechoslovak state was attended by more than 100 representatives of Slovenian politics, local government, economy and culture, members of the diplomatic corps and representatives of the Czech compatriot community.
The reception began with the Czech and Slovenian and EU anthems, followed by the Ambassador's speech in Slovenian and English. He recalled that Beethoven's Ode to Joy was proposed as the anthem of the European Union by the Czech diplomat Richard Mikuláš Coudenhove Kalergi, who already a century ago had great ideals and visions of a united Europe with a strong democracy and a high degree of tolerance. Ambassador Jiří Kuděla noted that now, at a time of danger in Europe and in the world, it is necessary not only to appreciate what we have achieved, but also to continue to fight for it.
He also referred to the numerous ties between the Czech Republic and Slovenia. The Embassy chose the Museum of Architecture and Design for the reception to highlight the ties in the field of architecture. A number of Czech architects have worked in Slovenia and have shaped the landscape of Slovenian cities. On the other hand, Slovenia's greatest architect, Jože Plečnik, had an indelible influence on the appearance of Prague Castle. All these strong ties between our nations in the political, economic and cultural fields build the bridge that connects us. At the end of his speech, Ambassador Jiři Kudlěla expressed his conviction to strengthen these ties throughout the all activities of the Czech Embassy in Ljubljana in order to further the positive development of mutual relations.
After the speech, which was delivered in Slovenian and highly appreciated by the attendees, the refreshment of traditional Czech food and drinks followed.
Czech compatriots and prominent personalities from the world of Slovenian politics, culture and business took the opportunity of the reception to meet Ambassador Jiří Kuděla, who recently took up his position.
