“We must prepare the OSCE for the security challenges of tomorrow,” Minister Macinka said in his opening remarks. He stressed that new technologies, including artificial intelligence and quantum technologies, can become major sources of prosperity, innovation and resilience, while also creating new risks and changing the nature of security threats.

“If we want to prevent conflicts and misunderstandings, we need to understand the impact of technological change before it catches us by surprise. This is precisely where the OSCE can play an important role,” the Czech Foreign Minister added.

The theme of this year’s Forum, selected by the Swiss OSCE Chairpersonship, is the transformation of the security environment resulting from the development of emerging technologies. The discussions focus, among other issues, on science diplomacy, the use of innovation to strengthen stability, and ways to better anticipate future developments.

On the eve of the Forum, the OSCE Documentation Centre in Prague also hosted an informal meeting entitled “Prague Perspectives”. Participants discussed how the OSCE’s economic and environmental dimension can contribute to security and prosperity in Europe.

The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) is the world’s largest regional security organization, bringing together 57 participating States from Europe, North America and Central Asia. Its aim is to strengthen security, prevent conflicts and promote cooperation among its participating States.
