Legalisation for use abroad

The Embassy appends national legalisation certificates to original documents that have been attested, signed and stamped by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, to make them suitable for use in the Czech Republic.

From 1 November 2024, applicants who fall in the following categories may superlegalize their Educational documents and Police Clearance Certificate on the day of their visa appointments:

1. Students

2. Scientific researchers  (with hosting agreement)

3. Highly qualified applicants / Employ card holders (through skill migration program)

For all other type of applicants, they must superlegalize their documents before applying for long term visa or long term residence permit.

WHAT COULD BE LEGALISED?

Pakistani public documents - Police Clearance Certificate, Birth Certificate, Marriage Registration Certificate, university diploma - must be legalised for use in the Czech Republic. The Embassy legalises originals only and does not accept copies or verified copies.

GUIDELINE TO THE LEGALISATION PROCESS

1) Have the document authenticated by Pakistani authorities

The competent authorities of Pakistan, typically the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, verify whether a document has been signed by the authorized entity. Once the document is approved, a stamp or sticker is placed on the document.

2) Get your document translated into Czech

As a rule, supporting documents for long-term visa or residence permit applications should be translated into Czech language. The exceptions are medical reports, bank account statements, and school diplomas and transcripts; these are accepted in English. The Embassy will certify verbatim translations into grammatical Czech without any additions to or omissions from the original.

Please note that the Embassy does not offer translation or interpretation services.

Documents in English that will not be utilized for visa purposes must be translated by a Court Appointed Translator or Interpreter for official use within the Czech Republic, without further certification of translation by the Embassy. The Embassy provides certification of translation of documents for visa purposes only. (Example: In case you seek the nostrification of a university degree, the documents should be translated by a Court Appointed Translator).

See the official website for a Court Appointed Translator or Interpreter: http://www.kstcr.cz/en

3) Schedule an appointment

See APPOINTMENTS.

5) Collect your document

Legalisation of educational documents and Police Clearance Certificates is usually done on the spot.  In case of population registry certificates, the Embassy retains the document and informs the applicant when it is ready to be collected, it takes up to 30 days.

For the legalisation of a Marriage Registration Certificate, the Embassy requires also the original marriage contract - Nikah Nama, Shadi Parath or equivalent - attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan.

Legalisation can be denied if the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan has not provided the Embassy with the specimen signature of the attesting officer, and for the reasons specified in the Foreign Service Act.
