The Czech-Finnish 5G/6G Day

On 25-26 September, experts from Czechia and Finland participated in the Czech-Finnish 5G/6G Day in Oulu and Helsinki, Finland. The event, organised by the Czech Embassy in Helsinki together with the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Czechia, Business Finland and Business Oulu, aimed to facilitate cooperation between the two countries in the field of 5G and emerging 6G technologies. Over the course of two days, participants shared insights on the latest innovations, explored partnership opportunities and discussed the future of telecommunications in Europe.
Throughout both days in Oulu and in Helsinki, eight Czech companies and academic institutions presented their innovative solutions and ongoing projects related to 5G and 6G. For Finnish companies, universities and institutions, the event was a unique opportunity to connect with key players in the Czech technology ecosystem, where several companies and academic institutions are leading the way in 5G/6G innovation.

- DG Solutions – Specialising in high-precision components and semiconductor technologies, DG Solutions is essential to the performance and reliability of advanced wireless networks. Their expertise in producing highly sophisticated components makes them an ideal partner for companies focusing on the hardware behind 5G and 6G infrastructure.
- Grant Thornton – As a leading ICT and 5G consultancy, Grant Thornton presented their approach to strategic planning for next-generation networks. They offer expertise in helping businesses navigate through0 complexities of 5G implementation, making them a valuable partner for companies seeking guidance in this rapidly evolving field.
- Škoda Auto – One of the most recognisable names in the automotive industry, Škoda Auto shared its vision for autonomous mobility, where 5G plays a critical role in ensuring a reliable network infrastructure for self-driving vehicles. Their innovative approach to 5G will expand the possibilities of data network infrastructure in the areas of digitalisation, IoT and support for Industry 4.0.
- Škoda Group – Building on the future of autonomous transport, the Škoda Group highlighted its work on autonomous tram and rail systems (such as predictive diagnostics, computer vision, fleet management, etc.) using 5G to enable real-time data exchange. This advancement increases the efficiency of urban transport and provides a partnership opportunity for companies in the transport and telecommunications sectors.
Leading Czech academic institutions:
- Brno University of Technology – The university's UniLab research centre focuses on 5G IoT devices and mmWave communications. Its pioneering research in autonomous infrastructure and smart grids positions it as a key partner for companies interested in research collaboration or technology transfer in the field of advanced wireless systems.
- Czech Institute of Informatics, Robotics and Cybernetics (CIIRC) - CIIRC showcased its groundbreaking work in AI, robotics and computer vision, areas that will be integral to the future of smart cities and autonomous systems. It is also a core infrastructure within a joint Czech-German Research Centre for Advanced Industrial Production (RICAIP).
- Czech Technical University in Prague – Its 6Gmobile research lab is at the forefront of future mobile networks and wireless technologies. They focus on IoT, cloud/edge computing, non-terrestrial networks, drones, radio resource management, AI and vehicular communications.
- Technical University of Ostrava – The University presented its independent local 5G networks, live 5G lab, automotive and focus on quantum technologies. The lab also has an experimental testbed based on Industry 4.0 principles. The Smart Factory enables engineering and R&D tasks from individual components to complex production lines.
The event concluded with a networking lunch and B2B sessions, providing a unique opportunity for participants to establish partnerships, initiate concrete plans for future collaboration and discuss potential joint projects.
