Conditions for the travel insurance from January 1, 2010

On January 1, 2010, a new law on system of insurance entered into power (Code No. 278/2009 Col.). In this regard, the Code No. 326/1999 Col. accepts new changes in the required documents on travel insurance necessary for the travel to the Czech Republic:

1. Visa for travel up to 90 days:

Before collecting the visa for stay up to 90 days the applicant is obliged to submit the document on travel insurance, valid for the whole time of stay in the territory according §180i article 1 of the Code No. 326/1999 Col., and at the same time submit the receipt for the payment of the insurance.

1. The minimum coverage of the insurance is 30 000 EUR, for the whole stay of the applicant;

2. The insurance will not be required from a person who could not arrange the insurance in his/her home country, for the reasons independent from his will, or from a foreigner listed in §42b, article 2; in this case the foreigner is obliged to arrange the insurance without any delay, no later than 3 days after entering the territory of the Czech Republic.

The Insurance contract can be singed with the insurance company that is entitled to issue the insurance documents in the applicant’s home country or the country that issued the passport of the applicant or in the Czech Republic.

2. Visa for the stay over 90 days and application for a long-term residence

Before collecting the visa for stay over 90 days the applicant is obliged to submit the document on travel insurance for the whole stay in the Czech Republic (according to the validity of visa), issued by the insurance company that is entitled to issue the document on the territory of the Czech Republic, for example:

4.       Česká pojišťovna ZDRAVÍ a.s.

7.       INTER PARTNER ASSISTANCE, organizační složka

8.       Komerční pojišťovna, a.s.

9.       Kooperativa pojišťovna, a.s., Vienna Insurance Group

10.    MAXIMA pojišťovna, a.s. (including on-line)

11.    Mondial Assistance International AG – organizační složka

12.    POJIŠŤOVNA CARDIF PRO VITA, a.s.

13.    Pojišťovna České spořitelny, a.s.

14.    Pojišťovna VZP, a.s.

15.    První AMERICKO – ČESKÁ POJIŠŤOVNA, a.s.

16.    QBE INSURANCE (EUROPE) LIMITED, organizační složka

17.    Slavia pojišťovna a.s.

18.    UNIQA pojišťovna, a.s.

19.    VICTORIA VOLKSBANKEN pojišťovna, a.s.

20.    Vitalitas pojišťovna, a.s.

21.    Wustenrot pojišťovna, a.s.

At the same time, the applicant is obliged to submit the receipt for payment of the insurance.

In case of having travel insurance issued by any other insurance company than listed above, you can contact the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Hanoi that will confirm whether the submitted insurance corresponds to the above mentioned requirements.
