Information for Israeli Passport Holders

Apostille

If there is a need to certify the authenticity of a document issued or certified in the State of Israel, please be advised of the following:
Effective March 16, 1999, the Czech Republic joined the Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents (1961 Hague Convention). As of this date, with the certification by the Hague Convention Apostille, Israeli documents are entitled to recognition in the Czech Republic and no legalization by the Czech Consulate is required.
The implementation of the 1961 Hague Convention in Israel is governed by local regulations and you should address inquiries concerning this procedure to the Israeli authorities. The following steps are usually taken:
1. Original document of Birth, Marriage, Death or any other official registry certificate issued by any Ministry of the State of Israel must be verified with Apostille.

Marriage or Divorce certificates - See also Important note

The Consular department of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jerusalem verifies original documents with the Apostille. To ensure their validity in the Czech Republic, the issued and Apostilled documents must be translated into the Czech language as well.

See Translation services.

2. Public Notary - Document certification :

  • A. Power of Attorney: After the document has been executed in the presence of public notary that verifies the signature, the Court for the area in which the notary is licensed issues an Apostille ("notarial certificate"). This certificate states that the notary was licensed on the date the act was performed.
  • B. Translations: After the document has been translated and verified by a public notary ( who knows both languages ), the Court for the area in which the notary is licensed issues an Apostille ("notarial certificate"). This certificate states that the notary was licensed on the date the act was performed.
