
Commemoration of František Škroup in Rotterdam

Ambassador Ms Jana Reinišová honored the memory of Mr František Škroup, composer and author of the Czech national anthem, on June 2, 2016, at Rotterdam cemetery Crooswijk.
215 years have passed since the birth of František Škroup. He spent the last two years of his life in Rotterdam, where he found a job in German Opera and died in 1862. He was buried at the local cemetery where the brief ceremony in his honor took place. Ambassador laid a wreath at the tomb of František Škroup and delivered a short speech to those present. The director of the Rotterdam city archive Mrs. Jantje Steenhuis was also present and gave a short speech on this occasion. Mrs. Hana Schenk paid tribute to František Škroup on behalf of Czech Centre Rotterdam.
