Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW)

The OPCW (Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, The Hague) is an international organization with 193 member states, established under the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Stockpiling and Use of Chemical Weapons and on Their Destruction. The Ambassador of the Czech Republic also serves as the Permanent Representative to the OPCW.

States Parties to the Convention have undertaken not to use, produce, or stockpile chemical weapons and to destroy existing stockpiles and production facilities. The OPCW was established to ensure the implementation of the Convention, including international verification of compliance, and to provide a forum for consultation and cooperation among States Parties.

The Czech Republic has been a member of the OPCW Executive Council, the organization's 41-member executive body, for a two-year term since May 2025, acting as its Vice-President from May 2026 till May 2027.
