Czech Companies Seeking Business Opportunities in Greenland

"Company Mission to Nuuk and Ilulissat,” which was carried out as an economic diplomacy project by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Copenhagen, took place from April 9-12, 2018. The main aim of the project was to introduce the Greenlandic market and business opportunities to Czech companies in the field of civil engineering, infrastructure and energy.
 

This extraordinary mission initiating to support exporting activities was attended by several companies from the Czech Republic, namely METROSTAV a.s. / SUBTERRA a.s., SG GEOTECHNIKA a.s., EXACT SYSTEM a.s. The entrepreneurs had a unique opportunity to gain business contacts and information about the upcoming investment projects in Greenland and thus increase their chance to win the tenders in the future. Additionally, all the participants had a chance to learn more about the local legislation, procedures and tenders in Greenland beyond the EU system (TED).

The Ambassador of the Czech Republic in Denmark, Radek Pech, personally participated during this four-day long mission, which was prepared in close cooperation with the newly established Honorary Consulate of the Czech Republic in the capital of Greenland - Nuuk and the foreign affairs department of CzechTrade in Scandinavia. The program included meetings with representatives of the key sectors of Greenlandic Authority, including the ministry of municipalities, infrastructure and housing, as well as Nuuk and Ilulissat Municipalities, the Nukissiorfiit National Energy Agency, the Inuplan Consulting Agency, and NunaLaw offices. In addition to the joint events, participants had an opportunity to have individual meetings with pre-selected partners.

Greenland

 

The most important and attractive projects in Greenland are regarding the construction sector, which includes expansion and construction of several Greenland airports (Nuuk, Iluissat, Qaqortoq with the total amount of approx. CZK 12.5 billion).  Furthermore, worth to consider are also development projects in Nuuk (tunnel, bridge, etc. in the volume of about CZK 17.5 billion), transport infrastructure between Sisimiut and Kangerlussuaq (approx. CZK 1.4 billion), and investments in the construction of water power engineering.

This initiative was included and funded within the framework of the economic diplomacy projects (PROPED) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic for 2018.
