Opening of the "Charles IV." exhibition

On Friday 7 October 2016, an exhibition "Charles IV. 1316-1378, The Emperor on Four Thrones" has been opened at library of the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Copenhagen. The exhibition is dedicated to Charles IV., Holy Roman Emperor and Czech King, whose 700th birth anniversary we are celebrating this year.

Panel exhibition has been prepared by the National Gallery in Prague in cooperation with the Charles University in Prague. The exhibition presents Charles IV. to the visitors from many different sides. It includes anthropologic surveys of his alleged appearance, family policy of his ancestors, his upbringing and education abroad, documents from the period of his reign, his passion for collecting, marriage strategy and centres of power.

The exhibition was opened by the Czech Ambassador to Denmark Jiří Brodský and Director of the Royal Library Erland Kolding Nielsen together with the director of the library of Faculty of Humanities Hans Kristian Mikkelsen. On the occasion of the vernissage Czech string Stamic Quartet played several music pieces from its reportoir.
