On April 2, 2022, with a two-year delay due to a coronavirus pandemic, the Hans Christian Andersen Award Ceremony for outstanding achievements in spreading awareness of the work of the famous Danish storyteller took place in Odense. This year was exceptional in awarding the winners from the past three years. The Czech Republic had two representatives among the winners.
In 2020, Czech filmmaker Jan Balej (1958) was among the winners for the modern feature puppet-animated film Little from the Fish Shop (2015), loosely based on the fairy tale The Little Mermaid. This year, 2022, the jury awarded the Danish-Czech puppet theatre Swans (Svanen) for staging and performing many adaptations of Andersen's fairy tales, including the production of his own puppets. The theatre consists of a married couple - Czech set designer and actress Patricia Homolová and her Danish husband. Patricia is originally from Brno, has lived in Denmark for twenty years and works closely with the Forman Brothers Theatre. The ensemble of Forman brothers regularly participates in the puppet festival in Silkeborg taking place every year in November.
Ambassador Radek Pech and Consul Kateřina Guryčová Láníčková participated in the ceremony on behalf of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Copenhagen.
