Film screening of "Icarus XB 1"

For the screening of December, we chose one of the best-known Czech sci-fi films Icarus XB 1 directed by Jindřich Polák. The story takes place in the year of 2163, while a spaceship including a forty-person crew takes off on s space journey to the Alpha Centauri planets. The film presents a unique concept of the future and pictures relations between people of the next century, sometimes surprisingly very similar to the current ones.
Everything goes very smoothly during the first half of their journey. People build new friendships, start new love stories and deal with daily tasks. However, fatigue and frustrations lead to disputes and arguments. The 110th birthday party of the oldest crewmember Anthony Hopkins is suddenly interrupted by an emergency alarm caused by another spaceship crossing the track of Icarus... New problems are about to be solved.
The film is still considered as a unique sci-fi movie, which served as a source of inspiration even for the Western cinematographers. Ikarie XB 1 is primarily known for the way people of the future are presented. People will continue to fight for women's attention, recognition, happiness, although on a different scale. Additionally, you can be looking forward to the greatest actors of Czech cinematography such as Zdeněk Štěpánek, Dana Medřická, František Smolík and others.
The film will be screened on Tuesday December 11 at 7:30 p.m. in Husets Biograf.
