For the month of September, the Embassy of the Czech Republic has chosen the film ‘Adelheid’ directed by the renowned František Vláčil.
The plot takes place after the end of World War II in the border area in northern Moravia (so called Sudetenland). Many Germans still live in this area, before they are expelled from the country. People, who were forced to leave their homes during the war, are now coming back. Many of them are looking for a new place to stay as well as for a revenge.
The complexity of the after-war period is part of the dynamic beginning, when the former RAF officer Viktor Chotovický takes over a chateau that belonged to an important Nazi family. Viktor is lonely, tired and seeking for peace in mind. He becomes entangled with the daughter of the Nazi father, Adelheid, leading to an exploration of post-war identity and humanity. Can Viktor overcome the dark history, or will the past continue to haunt their relationship?
The film will be screened on Tuesday September 25 at 7:30 p.m. in Husets Biograf.
