Czech Film Night in Husets Biograf on June 4, 2024: Krakatit (1948)

The Embassy of the Czech Republic cordially invites you to the Czech Film Night, which will take place Tuesday, the 4th of June 2024 at 7:30 p.m. in Husets Biograf, Rådshusstræde 13, Copenhagen K.

For the June screening, we have selected the digitally restored film Krakatit (1948) directed by Otakar Vávra, a noir psychological drama based on Karel Čapek's 1924 fantasy novel of the same name.

With the June screening, we would like to commemorate the exceptional theater and film actor - Karel Höger, who would have celebrated his 115th birthday on 17 June.

Annotation: Krakatit is the name for an explosion with an unimaginably destructive effect. Its inventor himself, the engineer Prokop, is frightened by it, but for many others it represents the desired instrument of absolute power. The film adaptation of Karel Čapek's book, realized soon after the end of the Second World War, still captivates the viewer today - in addition to its moral appeal - with its delirious atmosphere and visual ingenuity in real exteriors and fantastic backdrops.
